Course Objectives
This course introduces the principles and techniques of mediation, focusing on conflict resolution strategies and communication skills. Participants will learn how to facilitate discussions and guide both parties toward mutually acceptable solutions.
Course Content
Introduction to Mediation Theory and Concepts (first 2 hours): Introduce the basic concepts, principles and application of mediation in conflict resolution. Understand the roles and responsibilities of mediation, as well as the differences between mediation and arbitration, litigation and other conflict resolution methods. Mediation Process and Techniques (intermediate 2 hours): Learn the basic process of mediation, including how to conduct a mediation meeting, build trust, and establish an agenda. Participants will learn communication skills, questioning methods and the importance of effective listening to promote understanding and negotiation between both parties. Simulated mediation practice (last 2 hours): Under the guidance of the instructor, students will conduct simulated mediation practice, simulate mediation situations in different scenarios, and use the skills they have learned to mediate. Conduct reflection and discussion before the end of the class to summarize learning experiences and solutions to challenges faced.
